Today I have some key graphics featuring my 2013 Mutual Theme logos for you. Use this clip art on posters, programs, invitations, binder covers, handouts, t-shirts and more. (I have some posters with the key logos coming soon.)

But first, an explanation of why I decided to use the image of a key in these logos:

When I first read this year’s theme, I thought about standing in holy places, more specifically, becoming and remaining worthy to go to the temple. Performing ordinances in the Lord’s house is an important part of standing in a holy place, but I don’t think that’s everything this theme implies. I believe that we can stand in holy places every day no matter where we are by experiencing the joys of the Holy Ghost and by patterning our lives so that we are living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Standing in a holy place can also refer to standing for truth and righteousness by the way we live and serve.

So, becoming temple worthy and living the Gospel are a couple of ways we can stand in holy places wherever we may be. Being able to not only physically (in the temple) but spiritually (being in tune with the Spirit) stand in a holy place can help us be in the world but not of it.

How does this relate to keys? Just like it takes a key to open a lock or door, when we follow the principles of the Gospel and spend time in the Lord’s house, blessings and help from above are unlocked in our lives. Those keys of the Gospel open up our ability to spiritually stand in a holy place.

Thus, we can encourage our young women and young men to carry the keys of the Gospel with them in order to obtain the blessings and help Heavenly Father has for them. These keys to physically and spiritually standing in holy places can include:

• Prayer
• Scripture study
• Payment of tithes and offerings
• Temple attendance
• Serving others
• Building a testimony of the Book of Mormon and other scriptures
• Obeying the commandments
• Sustaining and following the Prophet
• Forgiving others
• Developing a personal relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ
• Following the Word of Wisdom
• Working on Personal Progress and Duty to God
• Sharing the Gospel
• Performing Priesthood duties
• Developing faith in the Lord’s plan for us and in his timing
• Participating in family history work
• Reading and implementing the standards in For the Strength of Youth
• Being true to our covenants

You can give your youth keys as handouts or Christmas/birthday gifts to go along with this theme and my logos. These could include keys attached to necklaces, bracelets, key chains or lanyards. Encourage them to use the key as a physical reminder to always strive to live the Gospel so they can stand in holy places no matter where they are.
