On August 1, the Church released a letter outlining the upcoming Mutual Theme for 2017. It is based on one of the founding scriptures of the church, James 1:5-6, and I’ve created a free 16×20-inch poster for you.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.” —James 1:5–6

The Church is hoping to encourage Youth to pray, just as the Prophet Joseph Smith did at the tender age of fourteen years. Here’s what the letter explaining the 2017 Theme states. (You can find more on the 2017 Mutual Theme on lds.org here.)

The purpose of the yearly theme is to provide opportunities for youth worldwide to learn about, study, internalize, and apply the principles taught in the scripture. Youth are encouraged to memorize the scripture, study its doctrine, and act on the principles learned throughout the year.”

“In addition, the theme can be used to enrich Mutual opening exercises, as a topic for sacrament meeting talks given by youth, and to provide focus for youth activities—including camps, youth conferences, and devotionals.

My poster depicts a tender leaf in a forest reaching upwards for the light. For me, this image symbolizes how we can grow our testimonies by turning to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by learning about the Gospel, studying the scriptures, experimenting upon the word and reaching for the Light.
