Arise and Shine Forth: My Logos for the 2012 Mutual Theme

I promised I had some great things coming for the upcoming 2012 Mutual theme and this is just the beginning!  I was excited this fall when I found out what the theme for next year would be:

“Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations” (Doctrine and Covenants 115:5).

As I thought about this scripture, I kept coming back to the lights in the temple.  No, not the light of the temple, the actual lights IN the temple:  the gorgeous chandeliers everywhere.  I love them!  The combination of beautiful crystals and pure light radiating from the temple chandeliers permeates the sealing and Celestial rooms in this sacred place.  And, I think that in a way this scripture is beckoning us to be like one of those chandeliers:  shine forth!  Use the light of the Heavenly Father and the example of Jesus Christ to become a stand-out person in the nations of the world.

The chandelier metaphor can go even further in a few ways.  First, each individual crystal is important–a unique vessel for amplifying and brightening a room.  Similarly, each of us is a unique and important part of Heavenly Father’s work here on Earth.  And, although we may feel small and that our part is insignificant, we can still spread the light of Jesus Christ in our own ways.

Second, get a few prisms from a chandelier together and they can dramatically increase the light emitted from a single light bulb.  Add a ten or twenty more for an even greater effect.  The more we work together to amplify our own light, gifts and abilities, the more we as Saints shine for the world.

I hope you get the idea.  And, that’s why I put a chandelier on my logo designs this year.  I have created for you a pack of several different logo variations, in both .png and .jpeg formats.  I recommend you use the .png files whenever possible because they have transparent backgrounds (no white behind the words) and you can easily put them on any background you want.

You can download the .zip file of my logo designs here.

Please, remember not to share the files with others.  If you know someone who would like to use them, please direct them to this blog to download their own copy.  Thanks!

Like these logos? Check back here often–I have created several 2012-themed items including a poster, New Beginnings invite, custom-printed fabric and more–and I will be posting them soon!  Enjoy!

  1. Love, love, LOVE! Thanks so much for the idea! I have ordered night lights with a plexiglass 3″x3″ picture frame cover, that I’m going to have a a cutout of a chandelier/2012 theme in vinyl put on the plexiglass for each girl to have in their room! Thanks so much!!!

  2. When you added the prisms to the light bulb how did you go about doing it? Like just hanging around the room or close to the light bulb?

    1. I’m not exactly sure what you mean, but we’re just hanging prisms around the room on sticks in vases and on some other decorative things like wrought-iron trees. I hope this helps!

  3. I ordered little crystals from an internet site for approx. $.35 each. We hung them from a branch and then each of the girls got one to either put on a necklace, bracelet, key chain, whatever. I talked about the temple chandeliers, and then I told them about crystals and how they start out as a plain piece of glass. But that when lead is added it becomes a crystal, and the more lead that is added the more they sparkle and reflect the light. We related the lead to the values and developing each of them so that they will sparkle and reflect the light of Christ to those around them. Went great! We had a hot chocolate bar and homemade cinnamon rolls. Worked great.

    1. What is the internet site that you ordered the crystals from? Also would you be willing to share the information that you had written down about the temple chandeliers and other information?

      1. I am not sure where we got the crystals from–someone else was in charge of that. Sorry. However, I can share the talk I gave in our ward using this theme. Click here to download: http://bit.ly/A4zlWm (.pdf file–you’ll need Adobe Reader to read it. You can download it for free from Adobe.com). I hope this helps you 🙂

      2. I ordered our crystals from crystalprism.com. Email me at lindakaye29@hotmail.com and I will send you the talk, how the invite looked, and the info about crystals. The nightlights came from National Artcraft Supply online, I ordered our invitations on etsy from inglish.digi.design, (search on etsy for “printable birthday party invitations”, Heather was awesome! It was very inexpensive then i printed them out at Walgreens. We had our girls sing the song “Light on a Hill” from Jenny Phillips. Let me know if I can help more!
